Our Roving Retirement Begins

John retires in just a few months, and we'll be heading out on our roving retirement journey for 2020, which Emily refers to as our Walkabout. Our original intent was to start checking out our potential places for retirement, but we've added on some other components.

After 'exiting' Atlanta, we'll fly to California to visit Emily, then back to Miami to embark on MSC Divina for our transportation Across the Pond. Upon arrival, we're visiting Sicily for a month to experience John's ancestral hometowns. Then we transfer to Alicante, Spain for about 5 weeks, to see if we would like living there. Right now, Alicante ticks all the boxes and is our choice #1 on paper.

Because we're subject to Schengen Zone restrictions, we have to leave until we're eligible to enter again, in late September. During this time, we're headed over to England, where Emily will join us for a few weeks in the summer. We'll be visiting some of Chris' and Emily's ancestral hometowns. 

We'll return to Spain to embark on Carnival Legend for our return trip home. We plan to spend holidays 2020 in California.

  This post is a little window into the lives of the family of Giovanni Impellizzeri and Maria Antonina Trovato of Alcamo, Sicily, Italy. Giovanni is John's 2nd cousin, 3 x removed (there are also more distant cousin relationships, but this is the most direct). John's Direct Ancestor Trees to 5th Great-Grandparents: Part 2, Ciacchella and Adamo

  Benedetta Adamo and Giuseppe Ciacchella This blog is a continuation of my project of balancing up John's tree a bit by attempting to get every branch to the level of 5th great-grandparent (in other words, 4 generations back from the 8 people in the top row of the graphic below, or 128 people).  This blog focuses on the 4 ancestors on the left side of the top row. Christmas Card 2024

Buon Natale - Merry Christmas! It's our first year not sending any holiday cards, and probably not receiving any either. Very understandable, given our living situation, but it still makes me a little sad. I know I'm in the minority here , but I still love the tradition of sending and receiving cards during the holiday season. It's a lovely - and increasingly rare - experience to receive a handwritten note from special people in one's life.  So, this year I find myself reverting to a 'virtual' format. I hope you enjoy our photos and updates, and I hope to hear from you. Happy Holidays! John Probably you all know that this has been a rough year for John, with two surgeries, three transfusions, and months of rehabilitation stays, after falling and fracturing his femur in June.
